Senior Round 12 Match Report

Fourth Grade

The 4s took a strong side to Kingsway taking on Wanneroo in our round 12 fixture. Losing the toss again, Wanneroo elected to bat on what looked a good deck, paired with a fast outfield. Andrew Morisey (4-38 from 11.5 overs) started well with the ball taking two early wickets and creating many more chances that unfortunately didn’t go to hand. Pace off through the middle sessions enabled us to control the game with Tate Saxon (1-17 from 6 overs), Benoit Gaffney (1-25 from 8 overs), Lucas Johns (1-27 from 6 overs) and Alex Cecchi (3-57 from 16 overs) all contributing with the ball. Poor fielding was our downfall again, with Wanneroo establishing a few costly partnerships through the back of their innings, finishing all out for 182 from 52.5 overs.

After losing Lewis Harris early, Benoit Gaffney and Jayden Camarda played positively to put the balance of the match in our favour. Camarda played an aggressive run a ball 37 before being caught behind and the loss of three quick wickets left us with a tricky chase of 100 runs in week two. A midweek change up the grades brought Ethan Beatty down from the 3s, who contributed 20 with the bat before chipping one to short midwicket. At 6-137 Tate Saxon (32*) and Alex Cecchi (46*) were able to ice the game and steer the team home for a fantastic win. Special mention to young star Tate Saxon, who batted all day on day two showing temperament and maturity well beyond his years with his gritty innings.

The win against Wanneroo leaves us less than half a game out of the top six with three rounds to play.
