Under 17s
Day 1
Fremantle 17's won the toss and elected to bowl first on a grassy green Steven's wicket.
Opening pace bowler Riley Walker 0/11(6)bowled attaking lines and was unlucky not to take early wickets with multiple edges unlucky not to go to hand. Operating from the other end Nic Campo 2/15(10) was at his economical best, with Fremantle having the visitors at 1/26 at drinks.
Wanneroo came out with more intent to score after the break with some handy partnerships throughout the remainder of their innings finishing at 6/ 204 after 50 overs.
Day 2
Openers Nic Campo and Korey Sweetman started well with a partnership of 64 before Sweetman(32) was dismissed. Sam Harding(19) joined Campo at the crease until Harding was caught with the scoreboard at 2/135, unfortunately for the Freo boys wickets kept tumbling through the middle order.
Luckily Campo kept going well to see us past the required 205 and retired not out with a run a ball 126, to head off to 2nd Grade. A handy tail end knock from Jamie Richardson 20(26) saw Fremantle finish 9/228.
Under 15s
Round 10 was against Wanneroo and our first visit to Kingsway. On arrival it was very hard to identify which pitch we were on due to the amount of green grass on top, so the toss would be important. Luckily we won and correctly chose to send the opposition in to bat to try to take advantage of the Green Top.
Kade Wack's exceptional form with the new ball continued, unplayable at times but in the end getting the results 4/13 (8 overs). Marley Hwight chimed in with two well timed wickets ending with 2/17 (6 overs) and Seb Bourne 1/3 (3 overs). A few single wicket takers and an exceptional 40m direct hit run out by Jake Oliver finished Wanneroo off 148 off 46 overs.
Day 2 and the grassy top had gone which meant it looked a much better batting track than the first week. Wanneroo were not going to make it easy and our top 5 were overly cautious which meant we kept the opposition in the game for too long. A very steady captain's knock from Mathews (52) was enough if we had others bat around him and that the middle order did. An excellent and mature partnership between Bohen Kane-Slocombe 36 no (49 balls) and Sam Coote 24 (33 balls) got the team across the line then Oliver came in in the 49th over for some junk time fun and ended with 20 (7 balls).
We ended the day 7/180 (50 Overs) which was enough in the end to get the win but we certainly made it hard for ourselves and made for some very tense times for the coaches and supporters!! We say to the boys that failure just gives opportunity to others and the middle order certainly took their chance and stood up when we needed it most. They continue across the board, to prove that anyone in this group has the ability to play a big part to win a game when it's required.
