20 Feb FDCC win Statewide T20 final at the WACA
The Port Boys have claimed their second piece of silverware for the season after defeating Peel Cricket Association by five wickets in the Statewide T20 Grand Final at the WACA Ground on Sunday.
Chris Davenport hit the winning runs in style, with a six off Ian Bowes with 16 balls to spare, to follow up Fremantle’s Premier T20 title earlier last month.
The Port Boys remain in the hunt for more honours, having qualified for the One Day League Grand Final and currently sitting second on the Alcohol.Think Again Premier Cricket ladder.
Sunday’s triumph came after a semi-final win over the WA Suburban Turf Cricket Association by eight wickets (WASTCA) at Fletcher Park earlier in the day.
Tom Abell (2-23) and Ross Macauley (2-18) were the best with the ball for Freo.
Jake Carder started well with with 34 off 30 balls. He was supported Tommy Abell (13) and Brayden Sutton (6).
Fremantle were 4-66 after 11
Davenport took over, with a match-winning 41no from 32 balls which included three fours and two sixes to ease Freo to victory.
It was a great experience for all the boys to play under lights at the WACA and especially share the successful day with Tom Abell before he heads back to the UK next weekend to take on the captaincy of Somerset CCC
